The fact that a person of color lacks self-esteem, character and common decency - leading him to resort to violence is absolutely not an indicator of behavioral tendencies across the entire race.

Why Racial Tension? Individuals Are To Blame For Individual Decisions
All people are individuals before they are members of races, social classes, etc. Every person is responsible for his or her own decisions in life. The fact that a person of color lacks self-esteem, character and common decency - leading him to resort to violence is absolutely not an indicator of behavioral tendencies across the entire race. The same goes for every other race known to man.
Racism vs. Journalism - When the News isn't Politically Correct
A man punches a woman in the face following a racially-charged argument. A journalist reports that the man was African American and the woman Caucasian when reporting the story. His rationale is that because the argument that led to the assault was racially-charged, and thus that the fact that the man and woman were of different races was a factual detail of relevance to the story. Despite reporting the facts in a completely objective manner without editorializing in the slightest, the reporter is accused of being a racist for reporting that the man accused of assaulting the woman was African American. No, this is not a passage from George Orwell's 1984...

Historic Presidential Election To Be Celebrated With 'OBAMA WAY' Street Renaming in Gardena, CA
Gardena, CA (PRWEB) February 27, 2009 -- Councilmember Steven C. Bradford brought a motion to Tuesday's regular city council meeting to rename 132nd Street in the city of Gardena to Obama Way in honor of the country's first African-American President and as part of the city's Annual Black History Month Celebration. The proposed renamed Obama Way would be between Ardath and Western Avenues in front of Purche Avenue Elementary School and Rowley Park.
"As part of the city of Gardena's Annual Black History Month Celebration, for the past 11 years a "Trailblazer Award" has been bestowed on a deserving individual," Councilmember Bradford said. "This year it was timely and fitting to use the Trailblazer Award to honor our country's first African-American President with the street dedication and provide the community and specifically the young people at Purche Avenue Elementary School a daily reminder of the significant achievements of African-Americans and motivate them to what is possible."
Gardena City Council will reconvene a final vote in 60 days, review costs and impact. The City of Gardena would then plan an unveiling and official street renaming at a ceremony attended by local, state and federal elected officials with an invitation going to President Obama, Michelle Obama, or a representative of the administration.
Steven C. Bradford, who attended Purche Avenue Elementary School, has been a City of Gardena Councilmember since March 1997 and started the Trailblazer Award in 1998 as a way to honor outstanding citizens as part of Black History Month celebrations in the city. The Councilman is serving his third continuous four-year term after being the first African-American to be elected to council. Bradford is currently a Region Manager, Public Affairs with Southern California Edison and continues to reside in Gardena.
