Syracuse Professor Boyce Watkins Leading A Quiet Campus Revolution Against Sexism, Racism
Syracuse, NY. (PRWEB) April 30, 2006 -- Syracuse University Professor Dr. Boyce Watkins is leading students on his campus to address the climate of racial intolerance they are forced to endure. Watkins and others are having a panel discussion and open forum to fight racism and sexual discrimination on the campus of Syracuse University.
"I want to do this in order to improve our campus", says Watkins, who is the author of "What if George Bush were a Black Man?", a book featured on Hannity & Colmes (Fox), "The Ron Insana Show" (CNBC) and "The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch" (CNBC).
Boyce Watkins will be joined by Paul Buckley, Crista Gray, and Tae-Sun Kim, all experts in cultural diversity. The panel, which invites students to air their frustrations about the climate they've experienced at Syracuse University, encourages students and faculty to ask the hard questions necessary to address the vast amounts of institutionalized racism allowed to exist on campus.
"We are having a revolution here at Syracuse", says Watkins, who will be a Guest Fellow with the European Center for Economic Research this summer. "It is a revolution of the mind, one that will make the campus a better place. If we do not extract these problems, then we will end up in the same situation as Duke."
Dr. Boyce Watkins has spoken out about racism in the way campuses do business, particularly in college athletics and faculty hiring. On "Quite Frankly with Steven A. Smith" (ESPN), Watkins discussed the billions of dollars being earned from black athletes by the NCAA. Watkins has lectured around the world, including China, about the injustices that weaken America. "In order for our country to be strong, we have to find our weakest points and rectify them," says Watkins.
The panel discussion will be held On Monday, May 1 at 7 pm in room 207 of the Hall of Languages. Admission is free.
