The following was a conversation that begin in the comments section of this story at Mixx.

The Race IssueMIXX USER: @FatLester Well seeing as how the discussion was about race, I have seen many a black person in college get extremely violent when discussions like this came up. I personally saw a black dude slap another white dude, because the white guy said affirmative action gave less qualified people a leg up. So I am not surprised.

Fat Lester: I am (surprised). I have more black friends than friends of any other race. No racial tension whatsoever exists or has ever existed between us. In fact, they often encourage me to invoke the use of the n-word when referring to them, however, up until this point I've not been able to bring myself to do it --- nor do I care to. It's just one of those good habits I have no desire to tamper with.

All people are individuals before they are members of races, social classes, etc. Every person is responsible for his or her own decisions in life. The fact that a person of color lacks self-esteem, character and common decency - leading him to resort to violence is absolutely not an indicator of behavioral tendencies across the entire race. The same goes for every other race known to man.

People are people. God made us different to spice things up and provide us with a diverse world with plenty of variety. Individuals can be good or bad. Races cannot. Each member of a race is an individual that must take responsibility for his or her words and actions. God will judge us all as individuals based on the lives we lead and the decisions we made. Come judgment day, race will not even appear on the questionnaire for the recently deceased person is filling out the paperwork for the application to gain admittance into heaven.

Every race has a few low-IQ bigots whose overwhelming hatred and negativity contribute to unnecessary hostility between groups and in the bigger picture entire races. It is these individuals who bear the brunt of the blame, as each individual must take accountability for his or her own decisions.

Race is all too often used as a cop-out to excuse the contemptible behavior of a single individual.

Remember, the Good Samaritan was a Gentile. Several of the wounded man's fellow Jews passed him as he lay wounded and malnourished. It was the poor Gentile who gave of his time and money to help an injured stranger regain his physical health and get back on his feet.

People are people. People are not races. There is no race that bears any responsibility for the crime(s) of a given individual. We are all faced with choices. Therein lies the test of character, integrity, ethics and morality upon which each of us will someday be judged.
